The place to discuss CPSIA

Yes, this law affects motorcycles, bicycles and ATV's for children under 12 years. The sports of motorcross, trials, BMX, even just trail riding with the kids will be affected. Bikes, parts, clothing, helmets all will have to be tested increasing costs and maybe putting small smaller speciality manufactures and retailers out of business.
I don't let my kids suck on the frames of the bikes, or chew on the vinyl on the seat. They are more likely to get lead poisoning from licking of the urban dirt on their tires, but I wouldn't let my kids do that either.
Up until Feb 10th we designed/manufactured/sold OSET Bikes little electric mini bikes for kids. www.osetbikes.com As a parent I want regulation of dangerous substances, but the CPSIA law was not thought through and there are so many unintended consequences.
I'm going to start posting links to motorcycle /CPSIA related info in this section (NEWEST AT END), also check out Overlawyered below. Please forgive any duplications, time and energy is short, I should be working on our remaining buisness MCReports.com that might actually pay the mortgage.

It appears from link below that the CPSC wants appropriately sized ATV's and hopefully bikes also, to REDUCE injuries to children trying to ride adult sized vehicles.

The motorcycle situation really shows how stupid this law is. It's one example that the average joe public can 'get', I hope that it opens the discussion of all of the problems with the law.

This is from a contact at one of the 'Big Boys'.

'Did you hear that Senator Pryor from Arkansas, the one who introduced the CPSIA in the first place, is now telling the CPSC to exempt small motorcycles and ATV's? We're trying to get more information on this. I bet something will happen He additionally told them that the CPSIA lead content ban was never meant to apply to small motorcycles and ATV's and that CPSC should exempt them right away'.
After putting us all through hell Sen Pryor says they didn't mean it to apply to us. May be he should have read the law and THOUGHT about the consequences before introducing it!!!!! And what about all the rest of the 'childrens product' industries who should have never been caught up in this.
If this was a private blog I would use some very naughty words at this point. Fill in the blanks for your selves, I'm sure you can come up with some good sentences!

Help Support the new CPSIA Documentary!

A CPSIA documentary is in the works. Since the mainstream media seems to think this is not worthy of their precious air time, this is another great way to get the word out and put our leaders on the "hot seat" to explain themselves. We know that the impact of this travesty is widespread. Now we just need to collect our pennies together and help support the documentary. We have over 700 members here. Imagine if everyone gave just $20....(that would be $14,000 and good chunk of the cost). Here is a quick way to make a donation.

This is a donation to support the making of a CPSIA documentary (see link for details). CPSIA-Central is not affiliated with this organization, and is offering this space for the paypal button in support of the documentary.
