Major networks continued to ignore the issue, despite press releases, calls, direct emails, press kits, etc. Selecta was there on Sunday. I wouldn't say there were surprising comments, but there was a good discussion. I will post video of the press conferences soon.

That sound great. Was there any interest from major press outlets: NY Times, ABC, CBS, etc? Was the representative from Selecta there? Any reaction about the import/ European Toy issue? Were there any surprising reactions/ comments either for or against?

The CPSIA booth was a success! We had two press conferences and they drew a few dozen show attendees, as well as several reporters (NPR, Mothering and Cool Mom Picks were there). There was also an interview with a toy fair reporter. We have lots of video footage which will be online in the next few days.

Unfortunately, I have been knocked out with a bad cold and cannot make it to Toy Fair. It does mean that I have been watching way too much TV. I have not seen any reports on the CPSIA in any of the Toy Fair coverage. How is it going on the front lines?

CTI is a 3rd party laboratory providing professional auditing, inspection and testing services. We attend New York Toy Fair as an exhibitor during Feb15-18th, our booth number is #4971.

Paul Nie, our vice president, is attending NY Toy Fair. Paul has more than 10 years’ working experience as senior management in an International Quality Assurance organization. If you attend the toy fair, he would like to arrange a meeting with you to introduce our testing and inspection quality control service at your convenience. I am sure that Paul’s discussion with you will enhance you confidence in assuring your product quality and safety, especially the products imported from China.

OFF SUBJECT - At your toy shows, please let me know if you see a nice Hispanic doll about 15"-20". Darcy used to make a great Hispanic doll that was perfect to dress in Indian clothes, but they retired it & won't make another run for less than 1500 units. Native American dolls on the market have blue-black hair & orange-copper skin. The don't look like Indians & Indians won't buy them.

Rob, asap after Toy Fair, please be sure to send me a recap of your Toy Fair presentation and copies of any materials used, including any DVDs you may run there regarding CPSIA, plus any comments on what worked especially well, etc., so that I can do whatever part of it I can at the western show.

I'm really starting to hate those web-based contact forms our Senators use...

Oh yeah, and we might not REALLY be off the hook. Congress instructed the CPSC to enforce the law, so the CPSC may not really have the legal right to issue this stay. We'll find out if some of the consumer lobbyists file an enforcement lawsuit. As another blogger pointed out, the State AG's offices are under no direct orders to ignore the law from Congress - an overzealous AG might still try to enforce the law in their state. Just because the CPSC specifically asked for the state AG's co-operation doesn't mean they'll get it.

I agree. This "stay" will get us through this powwow season. But unless they stick with XRF testing (instead of destructive testing) and nix the labeling requirements that will require tracking a pair of kids socks like they're a commercial aircraft altimeter, we're still screwed at this time next year. Heck, I'll go get a loan a buy an XRF machine to support the mom & pop operations in OK/KS. I've had enough radiation to kill a horse, so I'm not worried about it. But that's a possibility down the road, who knows what they'll come up with by next year. They still haven't issued a "stay" for libraries yet either, as far as I know. This "stay" took some of the heat off of Congress temporarily, but we've got to stay on them to FIX it. If we let up the pressure, the least among them will scurry off like roaches when you turn on the light, and try to avoid us again.

I sent emails to all the commissioners on the CPSA this morning, asking them to continue the stay. Nancy Nord answered almost immediately, stating that she agrees the stay needs to be continued.

Help Support the new CPSIA Documentary!

A CPSIA documentary is in the works. Since the mainstream media seems to think this is not worthy of their precious air time, this is another great way to get the word out and put our leaders on the "hot seat" to explain themselves. We know that the impact of this travesty is widespread. Now we just need to collect our pennies together and help support the documentary. We have over 700 members here. Imagine if everyone gave just $20....(that would be $14,000 and good chunk of the cost). Here is a quick way to make a donation.

This is a donation to support the making of a CPSIA documentary (see link for details). CPSIA-Central is not affiliated with this organization, and is offering this space for the paypal button in support of the documentary.
