Your interest in the CPSIA (public)
I'm a concerned citizen worried about what this will do to small businesses, the economy in general, and--closer to home--the impact on homeschool material suppliers.

Omnipotent Moral Busybodies

"Headmistress Zookeeper" at the "Common Room" a while back had a great quote from C.S. Lewis that seems particularly fitting. Speaking of "do-gooders" who are deluded enough to think that all problems in life can be solved by passing new laws, Lewis says:

"My contention is that good men (not bad men) consistently acting upon that position would act as cruelly and unjustly as the greatest tyrants. They might in some respects act even worse. Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the… Continue

Musical Instruments?

So, this gets mentioned once in a while, but doesn't seem to get a lot of attention. What about musical instruments? Of course many instruments are such that they could be used by either adults or children, and as items that aren't specifically intended for children presumably wouldn't fall under this law.

But some are made specifically for children. Like quarter-sized violins and plastic recorders. So are all of the luthiers out there aware of this law? Music stores? (Of course we all k… Continue

A Stroll Down Memory Lane

While reading a post at "The Common Room," I noticed a link there to an old NY Times article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/31/business/31consume.html?_r=1&fta=y

Apparently Nancy Nord had initially opposed this law back when it was first enacted. From the article:

"She said that one of Ms. Nord’s primary objections to the legislation was that it imposed new requirements on the agency that 'would not st… Continue

Waxman, Rush, et al. Letter is Grandstanding

According to Fashion Incubator, if you haven't seen this:

http://www.fashion-incubator.com/archive/dont-throw-yourself-under-the-cpsia-bus/

I think Fashion Incubator is right. Congress is hoping you'll say "whew! dodged that one" and then stop pestering them. When in reality, they know that what they are proposing doesn't stand a chance of going through, but by the time you realize that it will be… Continue

I sent emails to all the commissioners on the CPSA this morning, asking them to continue the stay. Nancy Nord answered almost immediately, stating that she agrees the stay needs to be continued.

Help Support the new CPSIA Documentary!

A CPSIA documentary is in the works. Since the mainstream media seems to think this is not worthy of their precious air time, this is another great way to get the word out and put our leaders on the "hot seat" to explain themselves. We know that the impact of this travesty is widespread. Now we just need to collect our pennies together and help support the documentary. We have over 700 members here. Imagine if everyone gave just $20....(that would be $14,000 and good chunk of the cost). Here is a quick way to make a donation.

This is a donation to support the making of a CPSIA documentary (see link for details). CPSIA-Central is not affiliated with this organization, and is offering this space for the paypal button in support of the documentary.
