My understanding is you are correct, but I don't have the reference you are looking for at the moment. HOWEVER, we are expecting guidance or a ruling from the CPSC very soon that will allow for testing for components. We all hope that will be done...

I just uploaded 40 photos, nearly all of them childrens outfits that will be illegal for us to sell in the US or export to Canada. I've got to attend an Indian Housing conference in Oklahoma City next week, so I will be knocked out of the fight for 3 days. I'll take my laptop & be online at night to pick up any messages. Please send email (littlecrowtrading@gmail.com) if anyone needs me, and use photos from my page or website if you need to make a point with anyone. Rob,
Dr. Davis Lee has spent quite a bit of time fighting the hysteria over lead in artificial turf. (The lead is actually in the pigment--and a child would have to ingest over 25 pounds to create toxicity) He is experienced in speaking with the media and is available to help any member. Contact him at--Davis.Lee@innovanetconsulting.com

I am so ready and willing to help in any way I can. I have never been apart of anything like this but your site isn't and won't be the last that I have joined. I also have contacted two of my cities local news channels and hope to hear back from them to shed more light on this law. Also, this is the first time that I had heard about the law and am going to try to send flyers out to make sure that as many people know about this that I am sure have never heard of the law either. Also, thanks to you and the many others that have come before me to give people like me the opportunity to have some where to join the bandwagon on this fight because I know I wouldn't have had enough guts to start one myself.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the comment. The way the BMX industry is structured, you have five or six larger companies who do complete bikes, and several tiers of small and midsize companies, some of whom do completes, some who deal only in component-based product lines, and a few custom builders. I am scheduled to interview a few experts in CPSC law for a story I am developing on this angle ("CPSIA, and how it threatens to wipe out an entire industry").

Once I have am able to confirm the claims and understanding of some of the bike manufacturers (who are already spending tens of thousands of dollars on testing in anticipation of the upcoming deadlines), I will get back to the group with an update.

Hi Rob,

I don't have much time right now, but could you give me an idea of what needs to be done? I have never been involved with anything like this, so I really don't know where to start. Thanks!

Joanne

Congress Wrote the CPSIA; Only Congress Can Amend It

Many of you read my response to Chairman Tenenbaum’s article that was published in the Product Safety Letter. The Publisher wrote a follow-up commentary downplaying my article because it discussed some Yard Sale issues that were not addressed by Tenenbaum. Here is… Continue

Wall Street Journal Bashes the CPSIA, CPSC, and Congress

Today the Wall Street Journal wrote a scathing review of the CPSIA and the CPSC's inability to deal with lack of flexibility provided to the Commission "Lead is a typical component of brass but poses minuscule risk to children through toys. As the CPSC's own staff remarked, "the estimated exposure to lead from children's contact with the die-cast toys would have little impact on the blood… Continue

Nancy Nord's Statement About CPSC/Learning Curve Decision

Nancy Nord released a statement on Wednesday about the impact of the Commission's decision to deny Learning Curve's request for an exemption for brass brushings, which pose no safety hazard. She expresses concern about some of the broad ranging impacts this will have in the children's product's market, which will lead to the disappearance of many products which "do not present a real risk." She concludes "I urge Congress to gContinue

Northup Fights for Flexibility in CPSIA, Loses

Below you will find a press release from Commissioner Northup. She made the case in yesterday's video that the CPSC was given flexibility, and as a regulatory agency, should be using it. She lost.

CPSC, if you are going to cede your power to make common sense interpretations of this law, please pass the baton back to Congress by urging them to make much needed amendments to save the children's products industry. In the meantime, we likewise ask and urge you to extend the stay of enforcement for… Continue

Is this a proposed guidance that still needs to be voted on? Am I reading it correctly? It appears they will allow component testing if voted on and as long as items are made under 10,000 units, they will not need to be certified, but still must u...

Help Support the new CPSIA Documentary!

A CPSIA documentary is in the works. Since the mainstream media seems to think this is not worthy of their precious air time, this is another great way to get the word out and put our leaders on the "hot seat" to explain themselves. We know that the impact of this travesty is widespread. Now we just need to collect our pennies together and help support the documentary. We have over 700 members here. Imagine if everyone gave just $20....(that would be $14,000 and good chunk of the cost). Here is a quick way to make a donation.

This is a donation to support the making of a CPSIA documentary (see link for details). CPSIA-Central is not affiliated with this organization, and is offering this space for the paypal button in support of the documentary.
